ACDS

Plainview, New York – November 15, 2011 – More than 320 guests attended the annual Dinner Dance benefitting the Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS) on Saturday, October 29 2011 at the Garden City Hotel. The evening honored long time friends and supporters of ACDS, Raymond & Linda Cardoza, Gene Cardoza and family, and was the largest fundraiser in ACDS history.

As guests arrived for cocktail hour they were greeted by the sound of Ben Donovan at the baby grand piano in the lobby. Guests marveled at the beauty of the ball room and masquerade-themed centerpieces.

Michael Smith, Executive Director of ACDS, welcomed the guests and thanked the Cardoza family for their many years of unfailing years of support, which began when Ray and Linda’s son, Raymond, was born 14 years earlier. Ray and Linda have been part of the Dinner Dance committee for the past 13 years. Ray’s father, Gene, and his sister, Marie, have also been enthusiastic supporters of ACDS from the first moment, attending events and donating generously to the cause. Through their involvement on the Dinner Dance committee over the years, Ray and Linda have worked tirelessly to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars with the support of their friends, family and business associates. In many ways, both big and small, the Cardoza family has made their support of ACDS truly a family affair. After thanking Mr. Smith for the honor, the Cardoza family presented a check to ACDS for $30,000 which will be used to upgrade and update the existing playground at the Plainview preschool.

After dinner, guests partied the night away to the sounds of the Hank Lane Orchestra. The brightest stars of the evening were more than 50 residents or clients of ACDS’s seven supervised residences and its new Day Habilitation program, all of whom attended courtesy of generous table sponsors.

Next up for the many friends and supporters of ACDS is the annual St. Patrick’s celebration scheduled for March 3, 2012. Please visit for more information.
