Daddies for Down Syndrome Fundraiser (2012)
On Saturday, August 25th 2012 Kristine Oleson held the 3rd annual Daddies for Down Syndrome fundraiser at Temple Emanuel in Kensington, Md.
For those of you who don't know Kristine owns a small health & fitness business in Kensington named HealthCoach. Her nephew and godson, Connor Kenneth, was born with Down syndrome in 2001 and, as she says, "he has changed my life for the better." In honor of him Kristine created this special day in hopes she could make a difference for all children and families living with Down syndrome.
All the proceeds from the event come directly to ACDS.
Daddies for Down Syndrome (2011)
On August 27th, 2011 the second annual Daddies for Down syndrome Fundraiser to benefit ACDS was held in Kensington, MD. Despite the horrible weather presented by Hurricane Irene, more than 50 exercisers, 30 kids and 15 volunteers raised nearly $3,000 for ACDS.
The fundraiser is the brainchild of Kristine Oleson - her nephew and godson Connor McLeer, who is 9 years old, has Down Syndrome and attended ACDS for many years. Connor still lives on Long Island while Kristine lives in the Washington suburbs. She is a personal trainer and the owner of Health Coach LLC. Kristine has a fitness class known as Mommy Bootie Camp, which is a group exercise class designed for the busy mom. Children of all ages are always WELCOME! The kids enjoy a built-in play date with each other while the mommies get a great workout at the same time. Kristine decided that she would like to offer Daddies the challenge of putting themselves through the same workout that their partners engage in while raising money for ACDS. As Kristine said when she first offered to help ACDS, “It’s a great chance to kick the dads’ booties and show them how fierce their wives are”.
While Irene dampened the entire East coast, she could not dampen the spirits of the participants. Overall, the day was a great success. Kristine worked them hard and everyone had a blast. The kids were the shining stars and reminded everyone what giving is all about. Hilton Honors was the main sponsor, donating 16 prizes ranging from gym towels, baseball hats, and wine bottle openers.....all the way up to 2 free night certificates to any Hilton hotel in the U.S.
True to her trainer’s mentality, Kristine was disappointed that the event was hampered by the weather. We at ACDS were ecstatic at her commitment to overcoming obstacles for our cause – we can only imagine the benefits of having Kristine for a personal trainer!
