Plainview, New York--  On Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 the Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS) hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Celebration at the St. Agnes Parish Center in Rockville Centre. ACDS is also one of the 3 charities that will be a beneficiary of the 2012 Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Parade.

Nearly 650 partygoers from all over Long Island celebrated in support of ACDS programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. Guests enjoyed the sounds of the NY Metro Pipe Band, Irish music by Martin Flynn, dancers from the Petri School of Irish Dancing and catering by Kasey’s Kitchen and Cocktails. The night’s event honored three individuals, ACDS’s Human Resources specialist, Alida Perez and the co-presidents of the PTO, Cheryl Bridges and Rich Mantone.

Alida Perez is literally a one-woman HR department. She is a tireless dynamo, who impacts all ACDS staff through her devotion, competence and dedication to all employees. Alida does so much behind the scenes for the benefit of our agency and no task is ever too great for her to tackle. Alida’s can-do attitude and warm demeanor make her a vital member of ACDS’s administrative team.

The second honorees are a great team - Cheryl and Rich are fixtures at ACDS and their unwavering leadership, commitment, planning and vision have resulted in year round events for our children and families, including the back-to-school family day and the graduation cocktail party. Additionally, their fund raising efforts have enhanced the instruction of our children through such purchases as a Wii (used during physical therapy sessions) and several IPADs,

The time, effort and love that all our honorees expend cannot be measured and ACDS was privileged to honor them at this event. ACDS, located in Plainview, New York is dedicated to providing lifetime resources of exceptional quality, innovation and inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome, autism and other developmental disabilities and their families. ACDS has been providing programs and services in and around Long Island for 45 years. ACDS currently serves more than 750 children and adults, providing services that include Early Intervention and preschool special education programs, respite and recreation programs for children, teens and adults, adult Medicaid service coordination, day habilitation and seven supervised group homes in Nassau County.
